Hong Kong for the Weekend!

How was your long weekend, everyone? As you must have noticed from the title of this entry and the photo above, Carla and I traveled to Hong Kong with the whole Pena family! And if there’s two things that we Filipinos go to Hong Kong for, it’s to shop and EAT. On our second night there, we ate at the famous house that roast goose built – Yung Kee restaurant down by Wellington Street, Central, Hong Kong. With sixty-eight years of being renouned for it’s roasted goose, duck and other delicious dishes, I don’t have to tell you about how delectable our meal was. Since this is a dessert blog, I decided to talk about the dessert they served us instead!

The first dessert we tried was the mango pudding. I think their mango pudding was good, but there was nothing really special about it. The pudding had an okay consistency, but I think there were too many mango chunks in there to be able to fully appreciate the pudding. Carla liked it though. She just got her braces and she says it’s very braces-friendly :)

The second dessert was the mini egg custard tarts! These I really enjoyed. The individual serving was just the right size, it wasn’t too big nor too small. The crust was just flaky and crunchy enough. The custard-crust ratio was perfect, I think. It wasn’t too crusty that it overpowered the custard and made your mouth dry. There was just enough custard to nicely complement the crust. The custard was well-made, it wasn’t runny at all and the consistency was just right. It was soft and creamy and wasn’t too thick.

Mini egg custard tarts = WINNER :) Great way to end a delicious meal!

Rice Kripsie Treats!

Do you remember eating this yummy yummy thing called the Rice Krispie Treats? It's the toasted rice cereal with a sort of marshmallow cream that forms it into a cereal bar. It's a little hard to find here in the Philippines, rarely found in your everyday supermarket. Well, I have good news for you! You can actually make it at home yourself! :) This is what Carla and I will be showing you in our next video. It's so easy to make! You can do it in 5 minutes! It's best after it's been chilled in the fridge or freezer though. The good thing is, you can keep it in there and just have a little snack or dessert every now and then. Above is a little teaser photo to whet your cravings for the rice krispie treats! :)

Polvoron Tasting!

I brought our polvoron to school and had my classmates and school officials to taste them! Kuya Guard even greeted me a happy birthday, thinking that I brought in those treats as a birthday blow-out thing. Just had to give him some of my polvoron after that :) Watch the video below too, to see how they liked 'em polvoron.

Sticky Stuff!

Carla and I made Pastillas de Leche! We only realized how sticky they were when we had to knead them with our hands! Oh my! Haha! Good thing we washed our hands thoroughly before starting! I kept that part out of the video as to not gross you people (who will be trying them!) out! It's pretty easy to make, surprisingly! You can also add more powdered milk if you prefer. Our brother Michael loves it milky :)
